so I have been participating in some pistol competitions over the past couple of years but my real interest lies in high power/long distance. I shoot as much as I possibly can no matter the weather or time of season. With that said I really need some sort of formal training and an introduction to the high power competition scene.

If there is anyone interested in training a novice drop me a pm or post up here.

thankyou,
Mark

Usually Reading Pistol & Rifle and/or Woburn Sportsmen's Association will have a day-long high power rifle clinic in the spring. I've gone to a couple. Well worth the small dollars that they charge.

Have you shot matches before? Do you have at least a marksman NRA classification? Do you have the gear you need? If so you might want to check out the "Marksman to Expert" clinic that Reading Rifle is putting on in April.

Keep an eye on http://readinghighpower.com/ and http://massmatches.com/ for details.

If you're brand new to high-power and have no experience a CMP clinic would be a good start. The clinics are listed on the CMP's website here: http://clubs.odcmp.com/cgi-bin/matchUpcomingSearch.cgi?designation=CLINIC (There will be some in this area, they just haven't been posted yet.)

cool thanks man, I am looking for one on one training also. can ya tell I have nothing to do at work today?

During the two clinics that I attended, the classroom lecture portion was followed up by a match during which one of the team members acted as your coach. So it was one-on-one training.

Jason, I did the CMP shoot before about three years ago at riverside and that was run pretty well. I do not have a marksman NRA classification. I haven't shot any "real" matches that's why I want to learn more before I just jump in..

thanks M1911 I'll have to sign up for that I guess..

Rancho: sent you a PM.

you're lucky, living in the Northeast. regardless of the cold winters, we have one of the most active HP schedules in the country (and a whole mess of REALLY good shooters/coaches that'll help you along your path). I started this game about 3 years ago, and its because of these guys I am where I am now.

Sorry to revive an old thread but this is what I'm looking for. I'm trying to get into Highpower. I'd like to attend a clinic. I've heard rumors of clinics in Reading and Woburn(?). Checking out their sites though I do not see anything scheduled.

Is the "CMP Clinic, Nashua New Hampshire" on 4/28 for Highpower? I've attended half a dozen CMP shoots before and my understanding is that CMP and Highpower are different. Any info or pointing me in the right direction would be most appreciated.

The CMP clinic is what you want, and the guys at Nashua are great.

It sounds like you are in a good position to benefit from the clinic, but I would also suggest that you are ready to jump in with both feet. What CMP matches have you shot in? Are they reduced courses, and you are looking to shoot full distance?

There are a great deal of people that are willing to help at both Reading and Nashua. You just need to decide how you want to procede. Jump on in, the waters fine.
