HEY GOAL - How about an invite for Sarah Palin?

Without trying to rain on this Palin parade, a brief pause for a reality check is in order.

We've all seen the hits that the GOP has fired at Obama about not being ready to lead or be CIC. What makes anyone think she is ready to do the top job? Twenty months as Gov of Alaska? No national security experience or international policy exposure ( and I'm sorry, but some GOP hack on This Week tried to say that she was good to go as CIC as she was Governor of the state nearest to Russia...barf)...The notion that she will pick up disaffected Clinton supporters is a total crock. Most Hillary dem supporters are pro choice and anti 2nd amendment, not exactly where dear Governor Palin stands - and she got booed when she mentioned Hillary at a rally this weekend. She is a pick for VP as a balm to the neo con Right wing who can't stand McCain. Sure, she's easy to look at, but would you want her in the oval office if McCain pops his clogs? I don't for sure...unknown, unproven and a puppet to the right wing. God help us...she'd be more or a danger than our current VP. She cannot even be compared to Joe Biden in terms of being ready to lead - sorry, just my opinion

I'm a dedicated supporter of the 2nd amendment, but this is , in my opinion, just a political move to please the right of the GOP. She will be a liability to McCain once the initial glow fades.

Mitt also got elected in MA. He is a conservative.

Please. [rolleyes]

Mitt was and is a RINO with the firm convictions of a wind sock.

He got elected to have his ticket punched for higher office and left here as soon as he thought he had the credentials. In short, Cellucci with better hair and less "5 o'clock shadow."

To say MA is a lost cause just isn't right. Look at the poll that the Boston Globe is running...that paper's readers tend to lean to the left, yet McCain still has 35% of the votes thus far.

Even IF he had 35%, these days our country is so closely split that even a 5% victory is considered a blowout. Down my double digits is a lost cause. Come election day the only contests that matter are going to be those considered 'too close to call.' Thanks to the electoral college, out conservative votes here in MA truly don't count.

Besides, McCain is running on the most underfunded Republican ticket in the last few decades. Do you think his campaign has the spare cash (let alone time) to campaign in a state they knows he has no chance in winning?

Yes this state is a lost cause and they know it but it would be great for us stuck here to see them come for a visit, maybe they could take a photo-op tour of the S&W plant.

Palin could do a short swing through Massachusetts on the way to New Hampshire. They could call it "The Forgotton Republicans Tour". This lost tribe has been wandering in the wilderness for far too long.

ETA: Photo ops could include a stop at the Kennedy compound, and Deval's 10,000 sq. ft. vacation home on 77 acres in Richmond. Might be a good counterpoint to McCains "how many houses" gaffe. "How much house do Massachusetts liberals need?"

Your points are extremely well taken. More than most, the people here follow the news, know a little history, and have an interest in cultural events.

The sheep are going for Obama because of his charisma, and because he's trendy. I believe Palin is going to appeal to a lot of people because she serves as an example to which many people aspire. So she has a lot of charisma too, but it is more subdued.

I guess what I am trying to say is that she will appeal to many people who will not be able to provide a coherent reason, just like NOBama does. I don't really know how she would perform in the hot seat, but what I do see in her is character, and hotness. That's all I need.

I think there's an outside chance that McCain/Palin could steal MA with some well-targeted ads, pass-through visits and deft timing. There are enough people disaffected with Deval: Attack Obamarama's ability by enumerating King Cadillac Deval's follibles and failures then tie Obamaram to him. Play to the Clintonista PUMAs by marketing Palin as a successful female and target independents with McCain's maverick reputation. Do this low key with a quick push before the election so as to stay below the Dems radar and maybe enough independents and Reagan Republicans will switch. Yes it's a long shot, but hey it's good to dream ain't it.

Its true, if you think MA will get any red areas anytime soon you're on crack. They're too busy getting high on the 'Teddy Teddy' chants.

at least those of us in MA are optimistic. The defeatist "MA is gone" attitude never got anyone anywhere. And dont even bother saying "move to NH." It is a brutal fight in MA, but its a fight worth fighting everyday IMHO.

not our fault all you border crossers can do nothing but give up......

Holy smoke man! You sound like you know what the hell you're talking about![laugh] Are you a polical consultant or something like that?

Well then since I'm a defeatist and I gave up I might as well stop giving money and increasing membership to GOAL then too right? [thinking]

How many GOAL members did you sign up this year?

maybe you are a flip flopper then. You and other former MA people do nothing but say "be free in NH" and to give up on MA, yet you are a GOAL member. Which side are you on? serious question.

Heck no, I'm an software engineer and project manager who's also a lifelong conservative Republican. It seems logical to me that this could work, but given it involves politics in Massachusetts I could be totally wrong.

Flip flop this. There is more to being free than f-ing guns. I moved because of overbearing laws, taxes, my vote didnt count, a state that is soft on criminals and high in corruption. Firearms was a very small reason why I left.

I continue to be a member of GOAL and donate lots of money because I respect the constitution and my fellow gun owners. Careful painting with a broad brush the people that leave MA for America, you don't want to burn any more bridges. Remember I wasn't born in MA, I was a resident in that socialist one-party experiment for a few years. Are we clear where I stand?

You should cut and paste that other post in an e-mail to McCain's people. Hell, you might get a job offer out of it![laugh]

Some of us are very clear on your position Derek. It is not an either or situation. One can choose to live in one state and still support the fight for gun ownership in other states, including MA. Thank you for doing so.

Absolutely right, we will be joining you someday in free America.

yeah, I see where you stand, and I agree with many of those points regarding corruption, taxes, etc. yet "move to NH" is just not that simple for the majority of people. I guess we just wont see eye to eye on what you or any other person here means when they say that people should escape to NH.

If a bridge has been burnt over this, then so be it. That was certainly not the intention.

One thing to remember with this election is that Obama did not win the Democratic Primary in Massachusetts. I fact, Hillary beat him by 15% here (56-41) and the fact still remains that many Hillary supporters don't like Obama. I know of two houses in Taunton, that I drive by every day, that had billboard sized Hillary signs that switched to McCain signs of the same size just this past week after Obama formally was nominated. I also know several Dems who say they don't know what way they're going to vote because they don't like Obama (most of my family included).

McCain will probably recieve 90+% of the republican vote (he had 41% in the primary, behind Romney 51%). The Hillary votes can swing either way and if many of them are people wanting a woman in the whitehouse, they may jump on the McCain/Palin train to get that. Being such a big Hillary state, it would do the McCain/Palin ticket a lot of good to have at least a pass-through-stop in MA and get some face time with some locals. There's 65 days (I think) until the election and while MA may not be a priority state, a couple hours would go a long way to help the Republican ticket here.

I live in MA and I'm not optimistic. So what does that make me? A realist, IMO. I will probably vote for McCain/Palin, but I don't think I can say with a straight face that they have anything more than a snowballs chance in hell in MA of getting the EVs here. If by some miracle it happens, then great, but don't hold your breath.

What are the chances of one of our more eloquent members , well versed in effective speech and the written word draft a letter on NorthEastShooters' behalf expressing our sincere best wishes concerning the November election. Can't hurt. Maybe we can forward a contribution along with the letter in order to assist them in this endeavor.

Do the present election laws allow such a thing.

I'm sending the GOP a check anyway......why not have NES's name associated with it?

Palin is a sweety....."sugar and spice" with an iron resolve.

Interesting idea. The McCain campaign website list a number of "Coalitions" ... I'm not sure what their role is. I do not see a "Gun Owners for McCain". NES would certainly form a solid nucleus for a NY/NJ/New England contingent of such a coalition, though, along with the various state organizations.

ETA: Oops. Browser booboo. I had to scroll down further. There IS a "Sportsmen for McCain"

It's interesting that there is the assumption of many folks on NES that because your here, you share the same political mindset. Speaking personally, I think that is a mistake. Sure, we all cherish the 2nd amendment, but don't make the error of assuming common political agendas. I'm frankly horrified that the GOP has tapped Palin to be the VP pick. Isn't anyone else worried about her being President![hmmm]
