Getting my little CMP Carbine ready for Vermont

Nice!

Also way to go to sign up for the match!!! Really nice to see folks giving the old war horses a workout.

Looks like I have a conflict early Friday evening, so I may try something on Wednesday or Thursday. I've shot a few JC Garand matches but my post surgery shoulder isn't quite ready for prime time. Might take the SAFS and shoot the M16 match on Wednesday or the EIC on Thursday. If I can get out early enough, maybe the As-Issued 1911 match on Friday.

There's another thread regarding who's going. I need to check in there, so should you. Good luck!

Thanks, the stock has an interesting feature. In the sling well are the typical last 4 digit s/n found on Bavarian carbines. This is not the last 4 of my SN and that's not the interesting feature. Someone extended the stock a little bit and actually did an excellent job. I considered swapping on another GI stock I have, but in the end opted to keep it "as received by CMP".

I pray they don't bust balls when you get your carbine checked. That extension could be a DQ.
Does not matter how you receive it from the CMP
I'm jealous.....I can't go. I wanted to and Carbine Match was on my list. The carbine match is challenging there are some very good shooters.

There's a gent out of western MA I see in the results often.... Mr. Williams.... the winners are often in the high 370s+

Focus on that front sight and shoot well!

I'm going to try Nosler 110 grain ballistic tips in my carbine. If they feed and shoot well !

I'll be there as well. Also shooting my garand in the gsmm match on Friday. Been practicing for a few weeks. Off to the range soon for some more practice.

Well the nice thing about the Garand/03 matches will be no sitting. 30 round course of fire. I hate sitting even more than off hand.

I think the Carbine match is 40 rounds (with sitting). Does anyone know if they do the 2+8 rounds with mag change for rapid fire?

It's 2 and 8 for any mag change. Except bolt guns which are 5 and 5...
Good luck to those that go and post some pics and results.

Had a great time. Shot carbine and GSM. Bought the garand right before the match lol. Brought my older garand but the wra special was too. Much to let go. First match ever for me. Didn't come in last, which was my goal.

Cool you snagged a special and nice to get a Win.
The special is a good deal IMHO as close to new as you can get and not cost 5k or more.

You'll like the accuracy of that Special. Before you shoot it in a match, check the sights to make sure they are properly tightened. Speaking from experience, ahem... [smile]

When I was in the store on Wednesday evening, there appeared to be a pretty good selection of Garands in varying condition and prices. I think the stacks of boxes were more of them yet to be put on display. Seemed like they were showing ~35 rifles on top of the stacks. I resisted the temptation to buy another Garand, but barely. Perhaps I'll buy a spare receiver someday soon to build one, someday...

I'm actually shocked they had that many rifles.
