LOS ANGELES — U.S. officials have intercepted and seized almost 53,000 illegal Chinese gun parts in three separate shipments at the port of Los Angeles/Long Beach.

The seized items included gun sights, stocks, muzzles and other parts worth a total of more than $378,000. The parts were intercepted in recent weeks, according to law enforcement sources familiar with the matter, and were packed in their own cargo containers on three separate ships that were also carrying household items, apparel, toys, industrial machinery and other imports.

Customs and Border Protection officers seized the shipments and consulted ATF agents, who confirmed that the firearm parts violated an embargo against Chinese weapons.

"This interception underscores the successful collaboration between CBP officers, import specialists and ATF investigators," said LaFonda Sutton-Burke, CBP port director of the L.A./Long Beach Seaport.

Federal regulations restrict the importation of gun parts from certain countries, including China.

Carlos C. Martel, CBP director of field operations in L.A., said the seizure was an "exceptional example" of the vigilance of CPB officers. Said Martel, "The Chinese Arms Embargo is just one of the hundreds of regulations CBP enforces, ensuring the safety and security of our country."

What fvcking bullshit!

Who were the parts destined to be delivered to???? They weren't just floating in fvcking space waiting for someone to claim them.

Chinese knock-offs of Magpul parts...?
Lol. These parts were bound for the internet.

Counterfeiters...

What's next? Handbags...?

But "Full Steam Ahead" for Fentanyl...!?

Exactly...

I like how the media/authorities makes it look like criminals and terrorists are the destination for that crap, when in reality its probably just fakes or poorly made clones of existing products, etc. When in reality all that junk is no different than a BOLEX watch or something.

I'd have less of a problem with this statement if he said something like "these products are typically illegally imported with the intent to defraud american consumers" etc. This isn't a "safety" issue. [rofl]

Would love to see an idiot criminal type try to install an AR butt stock, let alone an AR lower parts kit...

"Ah! My eye! I just got a spring in my eye!..."

Meanwhile, they never divulge the contents of the other 2000 containers that THEY DIDN'T INSPECT.

Thats right, 1 (one) in every 1000 containers coming into U.S. ports is actually inspected.

Ever wonder how THIS particular container just happened to be the 1 in 1000?

I don't beileve a word of it, not one syllable.

"Embargo against Chinese weapons." Feds, could you show me what weapons you are referring to?

I built my first AR with mostly chinese parts and its flawless. If it was brand-name, this build would be close to $2k.

i've run those cheap ass chinastocks on numerous guns and they are feature-packed and reliable

I would love the reference to the actual embargo the story talks about. I dont see any weapons. I see a bunch of plastic, aluminum and some spring steel; none of it likely high quality.

It was put in place after Tiananmen Square in 1989.

As others have mentioned, these could be airsoft parts. My first thought when I saw the picture was that many of these parts would be fine if they arrived as fully assembled airsoft rifles.

1. This stuff is mostly used for airsoft.

With the sheer volume of skinflints in the US gun market? Doubt it. Airsoft might be the "labeled application" but if the parts are compatible flints will put them on regular guns. Gun show Vendors lap that shit up because acquisition cost is cheap and huge markups possible.
