So I sit and write and ponder, while the house is deaf and dumb,
Seeing visions "over yonder" of the war I know must come.
In the corner - not a vision - but a sign for coming days
Stand a box of ammunition and a rifle in green baize.
And in this, the living present, let the word go through the land,
Every tradesman, clerk and peasant should have these two things at hand.

No - no ranting song is needed, and no meeting, flag or fuss -
In the future, still unheeded, shall the spirit come to us!
Without feathers, drum or riot on the day that is to be,
We shall march down, very quiet, to our stations by the sea.
While the bitter parties stifle every voice that warns of war,
Every man should own a rifle and have cartridges in store!

~ by Henry Lawson, 1907 ~

Oddly enough, not only is it a great piece of poetry AND very good advice, but the author was right about the coming war 10 times over at least...

Thanks for sharing.

A hundred years +1 (and I give that to you Dwarven) years have past....and it all remains the same...when something remains so deep, is there a surprise we stand so strong?

T'was not by grant, permission or accident
That our freedom came to be,
But by the blood of those who fought and died,
And passed it on to you and me.

So honor those who sacrificed,
Their every worldly good.
And stand your ground for liberty,
The way other brave men stood.

Keep the freedom fires burning,
So that others see the light.
And know that in the future
They too will stand and fight.

For it's every able man's right and duty,
To preserve liberty held so dear.
Using whatever force necessary,
By gun or bow or spear.
