Does this qualify as milsurp?

I had mine made because I wanted something different and something that was ridiculously fun to shoot. I love the historical significance of it even if it is just a heavy semi auto. If your ever around RI and want to stop by and shoot it hit me up.

Plus I'm thinking that as you unpack that thing and set it up at the range, you immediately have everyone's attention!

I have absolutely no clue why would anyone want an RPD, unless it's for historical/cool value.

a. if you want 70rd light mg, get an AK with pre-ban drum mag

b. if you want "a" with heavy barrel and bipod, get an RPK with pre-ban, hi cap drum mag

c. if you want large cal, get a PKM

I've been looking around - the RPK kits and the PKM kits - are either already scarce - or almost all of the way there. Vltor seems to have bought up a bunch of the PKM kits - and then built their own receivers - and marketed them thru another Co. - which now lists them as sold out.

Unless there's another big batch coming in - right now the pickings are slim.

I'm sorry if I came across as bitching about your gun, it's absolutely awesome, the look, condition, true vintage porn!

exactly on PKMs. You can pick up cheap romy RPK kits for under $400, stamped receiver blanks are available for them too, it should not be any different than any other AK build. Beltfeds are something else though, there is nothing like a 250rd pre-ban "mag" [banana]

You didnt come across that way, I was just stating what it was haha an overly complicated semi auto that is heavy but a blast to shoot. Seriously if you ever find yourself down this way feel free to drop me a line and put a few belts through it.

So lately I've been spending a lot of time looking at spend all my money on belt feds' -and the RPD is the latest thing to catch my eye.

My major question(s) - are around the drum and belt. Looking around quite a few places and nobody will sell the drum or belt into MA - but I also can't seem to find any info on whether or not the belts and drums are "pre-ban".

From what I've been able to figure out for the 1919a4 I built - as long as the drum and belt is pre-ban - it's legal and good to go. Seems like a lot of the places selling this stuff just apply the full retard factor and will not sell into MA just because.

Flintoid - are you sure that an RPD drum and belt are definitely going to be "pre ban"??

The "drum" is nothing more than a canister to hold the belt. It is not the same as an AK drum. As to people selling belted ammo to Ma its due to the fact they cant tell when it was made. Also most belted ammo includes a tracer round, hence the fifth round is usually removed from belted ammo.

The DS arms company provides you with a letter, they are with mine anyway, that states that the canister and belt links are original which makes them pre ban.

DS arms WONT sell anything to ma unless its legal. My FAL had to have a muzzle brake installed when I purchased it from them and the original flash hider removed. They seem to know the restrictions of ma and other states.

On another note where did the receiver come from?? DS is selling parts kits, complete with two belt canisters, caring case, sling, cleaning kit etc. for a little over $500.

DSA made their own receivers.

You should get the "nut-sack" ammo case: ... it's good for range jockes about "nut-sack"

I know that, I was asking the person who started this thread , he said he was a private build. Was wondering where he purchased the receiver.

Sorry havent been on in a few. Its a DSA receiver, built by Project guns. One thing to look out for these is where the striker rides along the rails in the receiver. Apparently they (the receivers) are only heat treated where the locking flaps engage. On mine the striker is digging into the receiver rails for the entire length of its travel. Project guns said he would take care of it I just have to box it up and go to UPS. Also if you need more drums there was a seller on gunbroker who had the drum and belt for a very reasonable price.
