"McCarthy believes the sheer number of guns in the city combined with lax state and federal gun laws are to blame."

Hmm... Makes sense... Toughest gun laws in the nation... Highest amount of gun crimes... Ya must be the lax gun laws.

Yet, the rest of the state of Illinois has the same state and fed laws but where fine. Wonder how that happens? Also, Vermont has no state gun laws other than no suppressor's but it's as peaceful as can be. Many states have much less strict laws than Illinois but no issues. Gun violence is 80% a gang violence issue. They kill each other or kill bystanders because they can't hit a bus shooting.

Poverty, drugs, lack of jobs, poor education, culture, and a non existent family structure has nothing to do with it.

Uh huh.

And very liberal gov't which of course creates the poverty, lack of jobs, poor education, broken families, etc.

Are you suggestiong mandatory markmanship training as part of parole requirements?

I jest of course

When we discuss gun deaths in Chicago it's always stated as Number 1 in the country when in fact it isn't As with any statistic it depends on how you rank them. Rank in murder per 100k it's not even in the top 9.
1. New Orleans...........................19.0
2. Memphis...................................9.4
3. Detroit.......................................8.6
4. Birmingham..............................8.4
5. St. Louis...................................8.1
6. Baltimore..................................7.7
7. Jacksonville..............................7.4
8. Kansas City..............................6.8
9. Philadelphia..............................6.2

But when you look at sheer numbers, it ranks 2

1. Los Angeles.......................1,141
2. Chicago..............................1,139
3. New York.............................1,101
4. Philadelphia...........................729
5. Houston..................................701
6. Detroit.....................................686
7. Miami.......................................594
8. Dallas......................................469
9. Washington.............................440
10. San Francisco......................439

Where did you get those numbers? Chicago only had 500 murders in '12 according to the FBI and that is murders total, not just gun related ones. Do your numbers include suicide or self defense?

Just imagine the murder rates if they could shoot even marginally well.

How many other city's in this country where the Mayor has to get on tv and radio and beg for the street gangs to shoot more carefully to keep innocent bystander casualties down?
How many other city's in the country invite the heads of gangs to come to the table to negotiate ?
They got the liberal paradise they worked so hard to develop .
Enjoy bitches.

A perfect example of why MA CoPA should NOT be allowed to write legislation. A much better (than boston.com) article on Chicago here: http://thelibertyzone.com/2014/07/07/chicago-police-superintendent-proves-hes-insane/

They were from the Centers for Disease control and Prevention, they were for only murders during a 2 year period, not one.

Ok, the 2 years makes more sense. But for your numbers and my link to the FBI numbers, those are murders in total, not just gun related murders. So gun related ratings for each city might be different.

Chicago had it's first shooting by a carry-permit holder this past weekend. It's going to be an interesting summer.

They had them, lost most in a poker game with the NRA. The mayor tried to bluff, ultimately had a losing hand.

He's still trying, and the aldermen, with their proposals for gun shops in chicago. Video tape all sales, can't be x feet from a school, etc. There are no gun shops in Chicago and it's the murder capital of the US, maybe do something different. It certainly cannot hurt.
