Case Prep - Primer Pocket Cleaning

Rifle, yes; pistol, not in years.

I put the primer pocket tool in a drill press, lowest speed, and let it do most of the work. It's preferable to carpal tunnel syndrome.

On .223 once I get to the primer pocket I use a Lee Primer Pocket Cleaner locked in a running drill, then a tiny brush through the flash hole, then 110psi compressed air to blow any dust out. This also makes sure there are no stubborn pices of media in the case body. Works for me.

I don't on .223 because I tumble them after I size and trim. Afterward, I put a universal decapping die in station 1 to poke out any stray media.

I alway's tumble before depriming, to prevent that kernal in the flashhole. The pockets never clean up anyway. I do not clean pistol pockets, but alway's uniform rifle with a Midway hand uniformer. It squares off the punched pockets and makes them shiney & bright.
