carbine kit for handgun legal?

If you attach a carbine kit (such as 16" barrel upper) to a handgun frame. Have you built an assault weapon by Massachusetts law, subject to the MA AWB restrictions such as no threaded barrel, collapsible stock, bayonet lug, etc?

I say it must comply with rifle rules. On that note im under the impression that if you were to use say a gen 1 glock pre 1993 you could bypass those awb regs since now your lower is preban
