Calcium Hypocholite - local and cheap water sanitizer!

I've been looking for some Calcium Hypochlorite for sanitizing water and making bleach in case the S ever hits the Fan. Several prepper sites give recipes. I finally found some 1 pound bags at Ocean State for $5.99 a piece. Just a heads up in case anyone else wants to squirrel a few away.

DO NOT STORE IT INSIDE ANY PLACE THAT YOU INHABIT.

It will emit chlorine gas as it breaks down.

Read up on safe storage of it........it can kill you.

I was planning to store it in a glass jar with a plastic screw top. Right now it's in my mudroom, and I plan to to research safe storage. Thank you for your warning

Yes if it's a dry place. Anywhere outside is better than inside your house.

That stuff also outgasses over time. A tightly closed container may create a nice chlorine pressure bomb. FYI.

You can buy a little generator that makes it from salt and water. As needed.
Also you're only adding a few drops per gallon max. So not much is needed unless you got a pool.
