A 24-year old man is facing a number of charges after accidentally shooting himself with a stolen handgun, police said.
Jorge Ortiz initially told police that he had been shot by someone else when they responded about 2 a.m. to a reported shooting victim at St. John's Regional Medical Center.
According to Ortiz, he was shot in the leg while getting into his car in an alley, police said.
But police didn't buy the story and say they latter determined that Ortiz actually shot himself.
Ortiz finally admitted the gun went off in his pocket when he got into the car along with his 3-year old son.
