IF you listen to the add they are running closely, the reason they could not INITIALLY trace the gun is because the serial number was removed. The local yokels then had to get help from the feds in order to find out who bought the gun.
True dat - Tinfoil is for the tendency to hear multiple related stories from supposedly independent news agencies, even Fox, that all add up to
Man, from the way Skeletor and the other socialists who run that dump talk, I thought they had things well under control with shot spotters and lots of patrols. You'd think they'd be able to solve a few crimes. Maybe they should use the GPS units in the patrol cars to see where the cops are in order to dispatch them effectively.....oh, wait.....

and demonise the NRA along with everyone else in the firearm legal owner community .

Even if the SN was still there MA would have needed federal help, because the gun was unregistered.
Identifying perpetrators of this type of event is heavily dependent upon witness cooperation. Given the most Boston shootings occur in neighborhoods where refusing to assist law enforcement is the norm, the stats are hardly surprising.

That has nothing to do with why they could not trace the gun. Plenty of "sold" guns still show up as belonging to the "seller" years after it has changed hands in MA. The Local Yokels had to ask the Feds for help because they are incompetent, plain as that. Plus, it is not a "registry" according to the powers that be.......
Well in this case they are smarter than some of us. They have learned early on to never talk to the cops, no good can come of it. Either the cops are out to screw you and you talk yourself into it, or they are out to get someone else and your name will wind up leaked all over the place as a witness leaving you unprotected against the thugs. Of course if you try to defend yourself now you are a killer preying on the poor urban youth trying to turn their lives around.
Tracing the gun the Marathon bombers used turned out to be pointless anyway. Given that the guy responsible for interstate trafficking got off with a slap on the wrist.

The community in which percipient witnesses refuse to do their part in enforcing the community's laws forfeits it's right to complain about a low clearance rate when those laws are broken.
