So, quick backstory: I have a friend who had an LTC-A, and due to some garbage that I won't go into, his permit was yanked by the COP in Dedham a couple of years ago. My friend has a pistol, and obviously he can't have it/carry it/etc. now due to his lack of a license. Since then, it's been sitting in his father's safe, sad and unused.

My question is, can I take the gun and keep it at my place/carry it/shoot it/etc. without him transferring the gun to me? I have an LTC-A NR, so I am legally allowed to own and carry it concealed, I'm just a little unclear as to whether or not I'm essentially allowed to have permanent control of the firearm without technically being the owner.

Thoughts/legaleze?

Thanks

Since he does not have a license anymore I would strongly suggest you take him and the gun to a FFL and transfer it to you a licensed person.

Depending on the circumstances of the BS that got your friend in that position he may not want to be the owner of a firearm.

If his Dad is licensed then strongly suggest a FFL transfer to him.

I would not want to get in the middle of an investigation where an unlicensed person "loaned" a gun to a LTC holder if something went south.

Just my 2 cents

My brother in laws license got pulled, the licensing officer in my town called us in to the station. They had me escort my brother in law in, with his firearms. The officer handed me 4 FA10's and said to have him transfer them to me. Keep them, sell them for him, whatever, they just could not be kept in his name, or the PD would confiscate them. I am suprised that at the time of the incident, they didn't take away your friends firearms as well as the license.

Now here is the problem ,the moment they took his LTC he was to turn them in or transfer them over to a licenced person.Just handing them over to his father does not cut it. There should have been,a FA-10 or a dealer transfer.I would call the dealer first and ask him if he would transfer them to you or his father.

Wow that was quite a nice thing for them to do , +1 for SPD

You're right, I checked with my buddy, he transfered them to his father. Still, the question remains as to how long "loaning" works for

I'll talk to him about having him just transfer it to me though

Thanks for the advice

Loaning in state has no limits, as long as you intend to return them.
Loaning in state also has no restriction, you can use them to CCW, where a loan across state lines is for legitimate sporting purposes only.

Seems to me it is friends dad you need to ask about borrowing
