In a change of black powder protocol, I gave the honor of the annual Gourd Execution to my 1917 Luger. I hadn't shot it in a couple years. Despite a field strip and oiling last night, it wasn't working very well today. I've had it almost 10 years, so I think it's about time for a detail strip. I shot 8 magazines on Winchester 9mm NATO; 6 in the target and two in the pumpkin. Believe it or not, the 120gr FMJ NATO is 50FPS slower than the Winchester 115gr. For the first 5 magazines, I couldn't more than two shot in a row without a jam - stove pipe, misfeed, or non-feed. As the pistol warmed up, I manages to get 5 in a row with the last three, but no magazine was a perfect feed. Target was shot at 50 feet, pumpkin at 20 feed. I've never detail stripped a Luger, but I'm not in a hurry. Maybe some snowy-trapped-in-the-house day this winter.

1917 Erfurt, matched. Original spare Erfurt magazine, and mismatched Erfurt magazine. Unit marked to the 122nd Wurtemburg Landwehr, MG company, weapon #4.
