Guess I'm a collector now, I really like it and haven't even fired it yet [smile]
1943 Tula Ex Sniper, all numbers match, nothing forced.
Zero throat erosion, lands are clean and sharp, barrel measures, .311 .301 at the crown, no counter bore.
My only concern is some of the loose, flaking finish on the wood foward of the receiver. Aside from a very small amount of finish wear on the end of the barrel the bluing is excellent.

Now I guess I need a complete sniper to keep it company

Should be a nice shooter. As for the flaking... get yourself some denatured alcohol and amber shellac. Mix it 2 parts denatured alcohol and 1 part shellac.

Remove the barreled action and all metal hardware so all you have left is the stock. Scrub it down with denatured alcohol so you can soften up the old Russian shellac, then apply the 2/1 mix but be quick because even thinned this much, shellac sets up fast!

You'll only need a day of dry time before you can reassemble and get to the range.

Whats next weekend?
Kingson, I promise it will come to a shoot in the near future where you will be welcome to shoot it.

Whats next weekend?

Doh!

Sorry, got your thread mixed up with majspud's 91/30 thread.

Too many new folks getting into shooting Mosins that I feel a need to turn everyone on to the different variants.

FWIW, shooting a 91/30 and then a Finn M39 is like teaching someone how to drive in a Ford Escort and then sitting them in a Lexus.[grin]

Look out. Next thing you will be looking for other models , the M38, 91/59, M44 then onto the earlier 91s. Cossack, Dragoon......its a wonderful thing....then of course there are the Finns, Model 27, 28, 28/30. M39............ oh the horror[wink]

They are addicting. But soooooooo much fun

OK this thing shoots great, not near as much recoil as I was expecting.
Very accurate. Can't wait to pick up the 44 now
