Hi Guys,

I'm looking for some advice on a few accessories I will be picking up for my BM AR-15 M4 Type. The idea behind this rifle is function and simplicity. One day I will do a crazy supped AR-15, but not this one. I'm espically interested in feedback from people that have taken an AR-15/carbine course as this is something I plan to do with this rifle at some point. I've read a ton of stuff on line about AR-15 gear in general, I just want to double check some of the stuff here.

1.) Sling: I was considering this one: http://www.blueforcegear.com/product.cfm?type=cat&cat_id=5&prod_id=79

Any reason not to get it?

2.) Grip: http://www.campingsurvival.com/hoarpigr.html Anything better out there?

3.) BUIS (as pictured below I have an eotech now) Was thinking about one of the Wilson Combat ones, are they just another companie's product put out by Wilson? http://www.wilsoncombat.com/r_flipup_rear_sight.asp

4.) (No link for this one). I've only fired about 100rounds through my rifle in one sitting, it got hot, but was OK to handle. For the Ar-15 experts, is a must to replace the factory hangrips (for more heat shielding)? I'm not looking for rails at this point.

Thanks for any and all feedback!

Looks to be all really nice choices and I don't think you can go wrong. I'm not sure if Wilson makes or contracts their BUIS, but I know for sure Troy Industries makes their own BUIS, (plus they're made right here in Massachusetts!) and they have a reputation for being tanks. With the NES Members Group Buy in progress on Troy Industries products, it may be worth a look-see - especially toward the bottom line - if we get enough orders, they may be 20% off! [wink] While I have heard good things about the Vickers sling and am considering one for my SOCOM-16/Troy MCS, I'm going for a Troy Single-Point on my NES AR15 build. Lastly, the grip I've been hearing most about is made by Ergo and seems to be favored over the Hogue. I have no experience with either, but am going for the Ergo grip.

Like I said, I think all your choices will be good ones - just wanted to offer a few alternatives. Good luck and keep us posted. Here's link to Troy for your review:

PS: Though it may seem like it, I'm not affiliated with Troy in any way - I just love their stuff and respect folks like Steve Troy and Tony Lawrence, (MCS inventor).

PSS: Look at Colt M4 "double shielded handguards"

The BFG sling is awesome.

Tango Down makes a real nice grip with storage inside (for batteries... you have an eotech. *shrug*

Troy makes one of the nicest folding rear BUIS I've ever seen and it's cheaper than the Wilson Combat one (albeit not by much) listed at the bottom of the page your provided.

Here's the kicker: MassMark is doing a group buy on Troy and Tango down stuff in the members section here so you may get this stuff discounted even more [smile]

ETA: Speak of the devil, he beat me to it!

Nice choices.

1. I love the slings from Spectre http://www.houtsenterprises.org/slings.htm, and plan to buy more when my other AR's are finished.

2. The grip is really a personal preference, but I bought an AR with the Hogue grip and LOVE it http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=645828&t=11082005.

3. I have the A.R.M.S. Buis, and it is very sweet http://www.armsmounts.com/catalog.php?action=110&cat_id=4.

4. The heat happens. I have a free float tube style on one AR, and it gets about as warm as the stock carbine setup. A rail setup like the S.I.R System from A.R.M.S with covers may help, but I haven't tried it out.

Just my two two cents.

Slings can be one of the most under looked (and overly anal), accessories (along with swivels, mounts, attachment points, etc).

IMHO... it's a matter of personal preference vs. practicality/need thing.

On two of my AR's I have simple two point nylon web slings with a quick adjustment slide...

My other one has a 3 point sling (damn if I can remember the manufacturer), that suits me fine. I bought it more out of 'tacticoolness' rather than something I needed. [smile]

+1 on the Hogue rubber grips... I love them (I even bought an AK to AR pistol grip adapter so I could put one on my Arsenal AK).

Depending on what you're going with/build plans are (and how much you want to spend), the Magpul MIAD http://www.magpul.com/catalog/index...78_103&zenid=4dfa60d6353daf2467bba63602d6c6fe
is also a nice choice.

+1 on the ARMS #40 (admittedly, it's my only experience with a rear BUIS), but it's a nice solid unit and is manufactured locally.

The only shortcoming with it is that it has no elevation adjustment.
