Anyone know what the appropriate side rail is for an Arsenal SLR-95 milled receiver AK rifle? I've tried Kalinka Optics and another Eastern-Bloc optics house, but neither has a phone number listed and the product descriptions say "universal".

That "universal" word scares me I guess. [smile]

I bought a 8X42 POSP scope and I want to mount it on the rifle.

Any ideas/sources/suggestions etc?

Thanks!

It shouldn't make a difference which side rail you use as long as it's designed for the AK platform.

(BTW... Kalinka Optics lists this mount as suitable for the SLR series
http://www.kalinkaoptics.com/detail.aspx?ID=510).

I've installed two universal (AKM... stamped receiver), side rail mounts
and they worked out fine.

You might find yourself in a bit of a bind with actually mounting them though. Normally, they're riveted on and unless you have the proper tools/equipment it's not any easy task to peen the rivets properly.

You might find it simpler to drill and tap the receiver and use screws instead (with a healthy dose of blue or red LocTite).

An 8 power POSP is a little overkill on a standard AK. I don't think you're going to get the results your hoping for. You may want to look into a short range scope or even a Kobra red dot.
Best bet is to read all of Tantal's site expecially the mounting page:
http://www.tantal.kalashnikov.guns.ru/rail_install.html
Lots of good scope info there as well as military optics applications.
You can buy from Kalinka but I've heard mixed reviews about ordering from there. If I buy anything AK/Dragunov related, its from Tantal's site.
