How in the world do the call it an active shooter? No shots fired, no suspect with a firearm located just someone who thought they saw someone with a long gun...SHELTER IN PLACE!
Sent from the blind
The new terminology is "secure in place" according to my 9yr old daughter. That's what they're calling it in her school when they have drills. How in the world do the call it an active shooter? They sure it wasn't an umbrella?
I don't get "Shelter In Place". Why do they teach this? I mean, if there is an active shooter in the building, wouldn't it be better to not be in the building? As opposed to waiting for him/her to show up and corner you in a closed space with no available escape?

I mean, if there is a fire, they don't tell you to hide in the bathroom

Because it makes finding the shooter more difficult if everyone is running away like a herd of cats.
It's not about protecting the innocent, it's about making the police look professional; it's about making their job easier.
