I have a question regarding .308 Win and 7.62 NATO cartridges.
If reloading for an M1A, is .308 brass (Winchester and Federal) usable?
Also, the reverse--how about 7.62 brass in a .308 bolt gun?
I guess there are some dimensional variations and I've heard conflicting opinions.
Thanks

full length resize the brass. You'll be fine. Just make sure you load to 7.62 specs. Do NOT load to 308 pressures if these are going into an M14/M1A

Be sure to measure your resized cases and trim to length as needed. Also, guage EVERY round after loading, failure to do so could be very expensive, monetarily and possibly in life or limb.

Thanks for the info, seems attention to detail is needed.
What about the reverse--7.62 NATO brass in a .308 bolt gun?
Again, thanks

You should read this article on the Sierra web page on reloading for semi-autos and service rifles. Lots of good information.

The chambers are slightly different but the cases can be exchanged with the understanding that military cases tend to be of more robust construction to deal with the rapid firing of automatic weapons. This basically means that the military cases have a little less volume, and you should reduce starting loads by 10%.

Some competition shooters like the commercial cases because they have a little more case capacity than military cases.
