My first investment-caliber acquisition!

Of the 10,000 1924 Transition models made, this was delivered in the second batch of 1000 to the commandant of the Springfield Armory on February 7, 1924.

These were the first M1911 pistols to include the A1 modifications prescribed by the military, but the formal designation of M1911A1 wasn't adopted until 1926, hence the moniker "Transition" model. The modifications are:

1. Shorter trigger
2. Cutouts in the frame behind the trigger
3. Arched mainspring housing
4. Longer grip safety spur (to prevent hammer bite)
5. Wider front sight
6. Shortened hammer spur
7. Simplified grip checkering

I picked this up from an estate consignment, as I am fortunate to be friends with the owners of the shop managing the consignment. The barrel and magazine are correct, and they included a 1918 USGI holster as well!

I shoot everything at least once, ammo permitting. Still waiting for 8x58r for my Danish Krag - the lone holdout. I have shooter grade pieces of most major types when I get the 'itch'.

Very nice! I'm guessing that's from the collection being sold by The Armory? Picked up some nice pieces myself.

Ted, this is one gorgeous ensemble!
If she'd be mine I would not shoot her, in fear of an original part breaking.
This applies to all of the crown jewels in my collection. After all, there are plenty of 'lesser' ones to shoot once it starts itching.

Hate you x2 Ted.

Eh. I shoot my Waffen HP every now and then. Mostly a safe queen. Guns are meant to be shot. Minus these queens but once, shoot it!

I'm on the fence. Never owned a gun I didn't shoot, but then I never paid this much for a gun before. Right now the plan is not to shoot it.

Please shoot the gun, even if its only once a year. It's sacrilege not to. [laugh]

Well done! [wink] All the correct and improved features that would hang on till the end. Shoot it? Your call so seek your own counsel. I love the the 1924 tooling and quality. I have been sitting on an unissued one made on the 1924 tooling in 1956/57 for 20 + years and still can't make the call. Not even in the same league from handling so it is not investment quality like your sample.
Thanks for sharing. I will sit here with my coffee and stare at it if you don't mind.
