Sometimes I have to remind myself to look out for other opportunities. I have been so fixed on finding a M13 Sauer, that I kind of forgot other things I was interested in. One of these was upgrading my M03 Colt. I found this early 1906 production and traded my 1920 towards it...net $300 to me. The only thing wrong with it is that the grips are later Type 3s, not the early style Type 1s with a different horse and a serrated wrap around the Colt logo. I have a wood set I can swap onto it, or find an original set some day.
Note the early production M03 barel retention feature predated the Colt M1911 use of the plunger/barrel combination.
So note to self, and note to you MilSurpers, to also keep one eye open for other things on your list, and not focused exclusively on what you currently have on the top of your list.
