Anybody have any practical knowledge in what's involved in a caliber conversion for a 1911? I have a .22lr Ciener conversion for my SW1911, but I don't know if .38 super, 9mm or the other caliber conversions only require a slide/barrel swap out. Or is it more practical just to buy a handgun chambered for the proper caliber?

To answer the "what are you going to do with it" question, it'd be mainly for Ss&Gs, not into competive shooting at this point.

Any 1911 conversion to as diffrent caliber will require a new slide along with the barrel. You will also need a new recoil spring. The slide change is related to breechface size. Greg
