100 Things You Will Wish You had Stored:

http://prepare4emergency.blogspot.com/

How To Be Prepared:

In order to get through any major catastrophe you need to think in terms of survival, protection, food, water, clothing and shelter. Now I'm not Ewell Gibbons but, I don't need to be. Here is one person's opinion on what you will need in the event of a "financial collapse" or other disaster.

1. WATER:

Don't try and store a water supply that's too big to take with you. Buy water filters instead. Portable ones. Also Bleach (chlorine Bleach can "sterilize" water: 1 teaspoon for every 50 gallons.)

2. FOOD:

Think about "high value" and compact nutrition. You can buy from my A-Store if you want. See the set of links on the right to find out how much you need per person.

3. SHELTER :

RV's Are great, but I doubt you will get very far without any available fuel. Think in terms of a high quality tent: again see my links.

4. PROTECTION:

Pepper Spray is good to start with I will explain personal protection on another blog. Sorry, I can't sell guns or ammo but I can help you find what you need. This is an accessories store. We are not going to take on the "gubernment", or any local police. The goal is to protect ourselves from hungry and thirsty criminals that are tired of sleeping on the cold, cold ground.

The dollar is heading towards worthless...

I will blog on other reasons for preparation after I get this done. This is a work of love, not greed. Those that know me know that I have great love for my family and friends.

Those that know me also know that I am right when I tell you something. I was right about stocks, gold, real-estate, the dollar and a host of other things I won't go in to. I am well-educated; well versed, and know money better than any other man on the planet. I don't raise false alarms. This post is dated March 18, 2008. In a matter of weeks for some, months for others, your life is going to change in some very drastic ways. Please follow my advice for your benefit and the benefit of your families.

To what extent do people here believe that there will be a total collapse of the system and chaos?

I see a few possibilities but total lawlessness?

1. Natural disaster - Ice storm or severe blizzard. Loss of power and heat. Food shortage. Seems temporary and not a situation where you would be roaming the streets with an AR. Hurricane similar situation. Possible devastation but the Northeast is above sea level. I think New Orleans was cut off because of the levies and it was below sea level.

2. Terrorist Attack - Attack on power supply. Shut down of the grid. I still see it as a temporary situation where you sit tight and wait for the power to be restored.

3. Global Nuclear War - Total devastation of government and authority. I guess it could happen.

4. Biological Plague / Epidemic - Disease kills huge number of people results in total breakdown and anarchy.

How likely do you believe that there will be a total system collapse with no government, police, or armed forces under control? It would take something really bad to take down the entire government and create anarchy. I have a hard time seeing it.

Finciancal collapse perhaps ?

Many here and elsewhere say its already happening. This isn't an overnight thing - (although I wouldn't rule it out) - Our .gov is blindly printing money and we don't have the gold to back our currency anymore.

Sooner or later the "Entitlement states", California & MAssachusetts spring quickly to mind, will go bankrupt as the Democrats attempt to continue buying votes, provide for unproductive members of society and shore up businesses which should be left to fail.

When it does happen it's gonna get ugly.

+1 Twigg you hit the nail on the head.

Rampant home foreclosures (homelessness),widespread unemployment(poverty/crime),credit crunch(reposseions) Bankrupt states & major corporations going "Belly-up" Resources & services being consumed by non productive members of society...etc..etc..

I'm sayin' the SHTF writting is already on the wall

Every time I see one of these lists, I am struck by one common omission: Get whatever gear and supplies you feel are necessary, but if you don't have -firsthand- knowledge of how to use them you may as well not bother. Get training, learn to use your stuff, and practice it.

In an emergency, are you going to remember how to purify water with that fancy filter, or even how many drops of bleach to use per gallon of water? How much time will you waste looking for instructions when you could be doing other things like figuring out how to start your generator....

Also, one major correction to this particular list: Do not ever give aspirin to any child of any age. Google "Reye's Syndrome" for why. Don't take that chance, use acetaminophen (Tylenol) instead.
