This is why it is key to be able to supply at least a portion of your own food and have food storage. And this something that cant be done overnight. I try to use a lot of perennial plantings. Fruit, nuts, asparagus etc. Many of these have been in the ground for several years to a decade and are finally really starting to produce. I have been working to improve the soil in the gardens for that long and agian they are finally getting where I want them. The point is you arent just going to be able to take your seedbank can from Emergency Essentials, dig up the lawn and grow all your food. I figure that I can supply about a third to half of our calories and a majority of our nutrients out of the garden. The rest is made up with food storage.
