With an FID..

I am debating on what type of rifle to buy on top of a remington 870 shotgun. With an FID i cannot purchase high cap rifles shotugns of handguns. Can i purchase an AK or AR with a 10 round mag since that would not be considered high cap?

maybe. I believe you could get a WASR-10 single stack, but any ak or ar that could take >10 rd mags you are SOL

NO, unless you find one of the CA legal ARs with the fixed ten round magazine. An SKS may be a better idea.
