1. I would never load handloads in a carry gun; factory loads are simply more resistent to moisture and lube migration.
2. In general agreement with prior comments except that, for .38s and .357s, I like a Remington load that is sometimes hard to find: 95 gr. serrated jacket hollow point. The recoil is quite low for the imparted energy, making a second shot feasible.
