What kind of scope is this?

Its a night vision scope.

Uses a radium-226 source hence the charge/use mode

Just like an old alarm clock with glowing hands.

It has a half-life of 1601 years and decays into radon gas. Should still be glowing.

That is a Naval night vision scope, good find, it's worth a few dollars. Looks to be from the 70's or early 80's. You might try 30mm rings to mount it.

Nope. Older than that!

Here is some details I found on the Lewyt corp:

During World War II the company did a multimillion-dollar business, manufacturing such items as radar antennas and popcorn poppers. Mr. Lewyt was made a member of the French Legion of Honor for his company's work in making equipment for the Allies during World War II.

After selling his interest in the Lewyt Corporation to the Budd Corporation, Mr. Lewyt retired in the late 1950's

So since the Budd Corp took over in the 50's and this is marked Lewyt Corp on it, its safe to say that is WWII vintage/Early 50's at the latest.

Real piece of history.

Thanks,
I had googled "Lewyt" a little bit, but didn't make the jump from vacuum cleaner designer to nuclear powered night vision optics.
Apparently he invented the clip-on bow tie, as well. To make it easier to dress corpses.
