These guys are selling a 100% stripped lower for $59. They say it is 35% lighter than aluminum, but it is not plastic, fiber, or composite. It is some kind of 'proprietary tactical alloy'.

The strikethrough of the $199 did not cut and paste.

MAG TACTICAL SYSTEM AR15 Lightweight Lower Receiver

The Generation 4 Mag Tactical Systems is approximately 35% lighter than any aluminum lower receiver, yet is still constructed of a metal alloy. No plastic, carbon fiber or polymers are used in its construction. The Lower Receiver is produced from a proprietary tactical alloy and is created using a patented process. A proprietary coating process allows the alloy to have excellent corrosion characteristics.

Features:

35% lighter than aluminum lowers
Total weight of 5.875 ounces
Integral trigger guard that still allows for winter gloves to be used
Reinforced trigger and hammer pin axis points
Reinforced front pivot pin
Matte black, corrosion resistant finish
Includes extended trigger and hammer pins
Works with standard AR15 components

So, what do you think?

I just picked one of these up yesterday. (Props to Precision Point for a smooth transfer) It's made of magnesium alloy and feels extremely light. Fit and finish are high quality.

It may be lighter than a forged aluminum receiver, I bet its a bit weaker too. Chances are its die cast- a very cheap process.

I was looking at these before, and I would try one out, especially for $59. It apparently has steel reinforcing inserts at key places. Here is an AR-15 thread where some bad ammo exploded and effed up the rifle. They gave the guy a new lower even though it had nothing to do with their product.

Are the Chiappa brand guns made from the same sort of stuff, bothers me a little that some points need to be re enforced. Lighter it maybe but stronger/as strong it does not seem. ?

Similar to a poly lower, the only reason I would consider one of these would be if it allowed me to get a pistol under the MA weight limit. Otherwise, for three ounces, it's probably not worth the risk.

The $59 price sounds good, but at this particular vendor, there is a $9 'firearms handling charge', and shipping is about $10. So all in, with FFL transfer, it's going to be around $100 anyway, which is retail for a forged lower.

But I bet everyone in Atlantis has one of these.

Let's see, I can get a forged T-7075 for $10 more than a receiver cast from some mystery metal? Gee, let me think about that one for a minute.
