Does anyone know what the thing is that comes with a Mauser 24/47
in the cleaning kit? it looks like a false muzzel, spring loaded, it has a
l-shaped 2-1/8th inch clip that hooks around the front sight to hold it
on it does have rifleing in the hole. i think it might be a muzzel protector
for cleaning?? but why would thay rifle the hole in the end???
JON J are you out there??? Heeeeeeeeeeeeelp!!

Thanks and Take Care Sheriff Dudley.

Its just that, a muzzle protector for cleaning rod use. What I never understood is why cleaning rods were never the full length of the barrel.[thinking]

Because they wouldn't fit under the barrel without sticking past the muzzle.
At least one of the military rifles that I owned in the past had a short section of rod in the cleaning kit which was to be used as an extension. Don't remember which one anymore.
Also, some of the military guns that had very short cleaning rod sections that were designed so that the sections screwed together. Two or three soldiers would share the rod sections to clean their rifles.

I checked the muzzle protector that came with my Yugo and danged if it aint so, the thing is rifled. [shocked]
Strangest thing I've seen in a while??????
