Any major differences between the two?
There is a more expensive version with a prismatic optic system that my AR guru has advised is better for precise shots at distance.
Yup.Would that be the spitfire?
Yup.
I was thinking of the 1x. 399 list; $299 MAP (min advertised price allowed by Vortex); sometimes available for less on Amazon.

I have one of these. The center dot is 1moa I believe. I can't quickly find literature confirming that but it's certainly not 3moa. My aimpoint is 2moa and the center dot on the Vortex is smaller.
Either way, I like this style of optic over a conventional red dot because the red dots seem to starburst on me from time to time. This etched design agrees with my eyes more.
I had an original sparc. it worked great but i had to send it back for a battery door issue. sent it out on monday and had a new one by thursday. the second one had zero issues for a couple of years before selling it.
their site doesn't list the center dot site for the new spitfire AR. At least i couldn't see it listed. the older ones had a designation of 3 MOA which i've seen many times questioned by others who have owned them online when i was researching them. i also have this scope:

It claims to have center dot that is 2moa. The spitfire AR's center dot is at least as small and dear I say smaller. It COULD be because it's a prism/etched scope and can be slightly deceiving. either way, it's MUCH smaller than a strikefire 2 which i also owned for a short time. THAT is believably a 4MOA red dot-it's huge in my opinion.
Maybe that's why they added the rings? I would think if it didn't have the rings it would be a PITA to pickup like you mentioned.
What I would like to see is the "concept " of their reticle designs. The DRT reticle is exscaping me a little. the inner ring is 44MOA
so basically at 100 yards you could put the upper body inside the inner ring and have a hit on target?

Why do you like the spitfire better? Because it's larger? The reticle?I have the spitfire II and the sparc II. I like the spitfire better.

I'm on the fence trying to decide what I want to get in the $200 -$400 range.
My initial idea was to get a sparc II or AR and then get the flip 3x magnifier...
