Well, you see the French are so used to needing assistance, they have no pride left and will gladly celebrate yet another example of someone saving their butts. But the Brits on the other hand are still clinging to this notion that their naughty little ex colony wasn't required to save their asses. So in order to falsely save their pride, they will act like the day never happened.
