So when I started dating my girlfriend about a year and a half ago, she was decidedly anti-firearms. After about a year of explaining safe handling, laws and everything else there is to talk about, I finally got her to go out to the range with me. I started her off with a Remington Viper 522 at 25 yards. (.22 semi-auto, synthetic stock, bipod, open sights). I set her up with a shoot and see style target, and by the second magazine she had a big smile on her face and wanted me to let her reload herself. The rest of the time went very well, with her going through about 100 rounds. Out of 30 rds on a target, she hit bullseye 10 or so times, with the rest being inside the 9 ring. Not too bad for the first time shooting a rifle. She didn't want to shoot the Mosin though, she said it was "too loud" As far as the Viper 522 having a reputation as being a "jamamatic", it functioned flawlessly with Blazer bulk ammo, and is fairly accurate. I have to adjust the sights a little, it shoots high and to the right, but all in all it is an awesome plinker.
