"WASHINGTON—Twelve people, including three U.S. Army soldiers, have been charged in an interstate gun-trafficking ring that supplied more than 90 guns to gang members on the streets of Chicago, where they were used in a mass shooting and other violence, Justice Department officials said Friday…In the Chicago case, at least one of the trafficked guns was used in a mass shooting at a party in March 2021 in which one man was killed and several others injured. Investigators from the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives used technology that captures and compares ballistics evidence to trace several guns recovered at the crime scene to the Clarksville area and ultimately the soldiers, officials said."

One year later, 12 charged with illegal sales of 90 guns in Chicago, with a "mass shooting" fatality of one. A drop in the bucket for BATF‘s efforts…

There was a skit on the Carol Burnett show, that would be very cancelled

They were doing a parody of Kung Fu, called "Young Fool." Burnett was dressed up as an Indian, complete with a tom-tom on her belt, for her own rimshots.

The subject of her marrying the "Chinese" guy came up - "A yellow man, marrying a red woman....they'd have an orange kid!"

"We'll name him Julius...." [rimshot]

First - nobody would get it, 'cause OJ is rare, these days, and oh, the cultural appropriation! [shocked]

Au contraire, it sounds to me like the case comprised the bulk of
(frigging useless) AFT's efforts over the entire year.

"Demarcus Adams, 21 years old, Jarius Brunson, 22"
Typical Irish Latin names.
Does anybody remember Orange Julius at the mall in the 1980's?
FTFY.

I miss Orange Julius. It used to be a great walking around the mall drink. Sorry to wreck the thread. It looks like there's one in Enfield CT, but the chances of me driving to Enfield to go to a mall is zilch.

Easy to make

Prior to the 90's, cultural appropriation was the norm and nobody cared.
Very few actors playing indians in Westerns were real native Americans, far more were Italians or Eastern Europeans.
Cher is a perfect example of cultural appropriation, she pretended to be part Cherokee for years, but she's really Armenian.

You mean this guy...

Doesn't look like a swan???

Well, her mother claims to be part Cherokee, so what do you want her to say?

Of course, we already know from Fauxcahontas that the three official Cherokee nations
maintain exhaustive lists of the people they are willing to recognize as members,
and they don't cotton to people trying to pull the stolen valor scam at their expense.

YoutUbe gumflappers endlessly "analyzing" simple problems.[rolleyes]

Charles Rangel was constantly filing bills to reintroduce the draft,
even though the all-volunteer military has no use for conscripts -
can't afford them, can't train them, don't want to babysit them.

Some state legislators want to use the military as a reform school?
If the military doesn't want that burden, it should be an easy lift to
forbid people with arrest records not just convicts. And if that means
they skate on their sentence with no jail and no service -
probably to reoffend - that's the state's reward for passing a stupid law.

OTOH, anyone who is motivated to sneak in will voluntarily or under pressure
will either get squared-away (which is fine by me),
or will out themselves and get booted.

Or if the military is back to being short of recruits and wants the challenge?
They should be careful what they ask for.

That was the whole deal with 'Jews' in Blazing Saddles being Indians. Mel Brooks is the champion of rubbing people's noses in overt and covert racism.

Ed Ames, who played Mingo in the Daniel Boone TV series, was the son of Ukrainian Jews, and grew up in Malden Mass.
The joke used to be that he was a member of the Schmohawk Tribe.
