signal cannons in Mass

Damit, I had a conversation with a guy back in May who had a MA cannonier license. He said it was very difficult to get but gave some pointers. Wish I could remember.

My late uncle had one. I had the impression the process was straightforward, but it was at least 15 years back, maybe longer.

Don't put in too much powder, don't use too tight wadding and don't look down the bore when it's loaded. Shout fire in the hole and high tail it to a safe distance. Outside of Mass, that's basically all you need to know.

Are you a former Westford guy? Shot a few at pontoon boats as they taunted us on Nab Lake. They sped off on the pins when one went right over their fuel tanks. WPD showed up shortly thereafter. LOL
Jersey boy, but I'm a member at Westford Sportsmen's if that helps:)

Old age sucks... You'll remember when you're in the shower or taking a dump...

We were more advanced - we'd make "pistols" out of copper tube, with a lighting hole, on top.
Showoff...

Yeah, outside Mass, in freedomland.

It looks like it is free, but you have to know someone with one to get one. I suspect this is the most difficult part. I take that back... try finding the application... or any info on what you have to know.

There is a written test you have to go sit for.

Anyone have a study guide and a sponsor? I am interested in acquiring a license.

Some time, a while back I looked into it. This dude was offering classes, but I'm not sure if they are still there:

Oh, its been one interesting endeavor.

First to find someone who has held the same certification for five years.

Do cannon drill in a misting rain.

Have them sign off on your application. And that signature has to be notarized.

Send in the application by the quarterly dead line. There's four exams a year.

Then wait for one of the quarterly exam dates.

Then find the exam office. They should give points for just finding the exam site. The exam starts at 9am sharp, the phone lines don't open till 9am. The address merely says State Road, no address number. Signs are posted along the way, behind other signs, telephone and light poles. Now try that on a foggy morning.

Two thirds of the test is dealing with the state codes and regulations. And don't forget the trick questions.

Then wait a week to two weeks to find out if you have passed or failed.

I've chosen the fire it in NH path lo the many years.

I also had the phenomenal experience of recently firing a shouldered 1ga shotgun that puts many signal cannon to shame. Still smiling :D
