Shipping a firearm to Gray Guns - very expensive (or do I have this wrong?)

Very excited about Gray Guns opening their Sig Services again this week - have a 229 that I wanted to send to them for some work.

Went to UPS to send it out today...the charges to ship next day air (which the lady behind the counter told me is the only way to ship a firearm) to GGI in Oregon is around $110-140 one-way (and I am guessing the same $ coming back).

Ouch - I didn't send it out because that is expensive - has anyone shipped anything out to Gray Guns (or any firearm coast to coast I guess)? - do these prices seem about right or are there cheaper alternatives (I am thinking of having some work done locally) for shipping a firearm to a dealer.

find a FFL to do it for you, a FFL can ship a handgun USPS.

+1 - FedEx or UPS will want you to overnight any handgun. The FFL has a lot more options.

If you have a FFL ship, be prepared for the 4473 and NICS check when you get it back.

Yeah an FFL will probably charge you $30-$40 to send but that is much less than FedEx or UPS!

My ffl charges me the actual cost of shipping overnight which is $15 and nothing more.

Business's are treated differently when shipping firearms that private individuals. They get it cheap. We get raped!
