Anyone loading 9mm? I've been buying the Walmart stuff. But its creaping up in price. Although components are going up as well too. I'm already reloading a few other calibers but it never seemed to me to be cost effective in reloading the 9mm.

I just started 9mm, did my first couple hundred yesterday. For me, 9mm broke the buy/reload price last fall. Shot up most of my wwb stock, now reloading it. Using 5 gr unique to see what that does.
What's the velocity you get on your 124gr recipe? I'm gonna be looking to load a little above the power floor for IDPA ESP, which is 125,000 (weight in gr * velocity in FPS). Why JHP and not FMJ?

Reloading 9mm has benefits.
#1. Free brass.
#2. Accuracy.
#3. Economy.
#4. The brass is free.
I load 4.1 grains of W231 and a 125 grain round nose. Shoots great in every 9mm I own.
I don't have a particular reason for JHP rather than FMJ. It was what is readily available to me. (don't ask ) I've heard people claim that JHP are more accurate or that they feed better. I'm not sure I can validate either claim from experience. But I would avoid platted bullets.
Hope this helps.
Ive been using 5.5 grains of Unique behind a 115 FMJ RN. They have worked great in my Glock17. I dont have a chrono so Im not sure how fast they are traveling.
Just curious, why do you avoid plated bullets? I have reloaded only jacketed bullets so far, but with the price of them rising I thought I might try the plated ones which can be less than half the price of jacketed ones in bulk.

9mm brass is much more scarce at the range than it used to be. I used to get a bunch of once fired at my range. Part of it is that people are reloading 9mm more but I think just as many, if not more are coming in and taking all the brass for the scrap.

Roger that. Seems like the brass buckets are always empty now when ever I go to my club. You know it's not the reloaders when all the .22 rimfire brass is gone as well...
How the hell do you get it to fit in the case? Even with 5.0 I think the 115 gr bullet compresses the powder a little.
I got some Unique too and one manual calls for 5.3grains. Which takes up pretty much the whole case. I didnt like what I saw when i made one round. I took a few to the range and they are VIOLENT. I shoot lead too, and I think the bullets were disengrating(sp) before making it to the target. I stepped the charge down to 4.9 and it seemed a little more bareable but I stopped using Unique in 9mm after that.
So I guess what someone told me about there being buckets of brass at Massasoit was too good to be true.
