"Discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling" does that mean I can go deep into the woods in MA way past 1000 feet from any kind of "dwelling" or man made structure as long as it isn't private property and discharge my firearm?

It only means for sure you can not discharge with in 500 feet. There may be other restrictions depending on where you are at. Check with the town you want to shoot in.
