Pre ban colt AR with small take down pin conversion/drill to accept pin with detent.

Anyone out there drill the pre ban small front pin ARs to accept a detent and spring for the caputured style front pin?

I want to drill the hole for front pin detent. My drill press is not tall enough and I don’t really have a way to secure it square with the spindle
