Need a little help. My grand farther gave me a lot of powder and I found uses for most through his old realoder books. But one I can't fine a use for and that is Winchester AA 452. Can any one shed a light on this for me?
Thanks

The following are some notes I've collected (I use it in many reduced rifle loads, too...cast and coated bullets primarily):

Win 452AA

The 1985 edition of the Winchester reloading Components Catalog lists the following loads for this powder:

38 Special:
148Gn WC, 2.9Gns, 800fps, 12,500CUP
158Gn LSWC, 3.4Gns, 845fps, 15,500CUP

45ACP:
185Gns Full Metal Case., 4.0gns, 686fps, 11,500CUP
185Gns Full Metal Case., 4.5gns, 769fps, 13,800CUP

The first edition of Nick harvey's Practical Reloading Manual, 1993 recommends the following as well:

45ACP:
185Gn W/C, Starting load: 4.4Gns, 750fps, Maximum load: 5.0Gns, 850fps
200Gn SWC, Starting load: 4.0Gns, 700fps, Maximum load: 5.2Gns, 900fps

Years ago I used 452AA as a target load in 45acp with good results. The powder has been off the market but I recently picked up several lbs at an old gunshop for a good price. Now I can't find any data other than an old Winchester brochure that recommends 4.5gr with a 185gr SWC. That load shoots fine in my Colts but it won't reliably cycle in my Sig. Anybody got any idea what the max load might be for 452AA with a 185gr LSWC?
Is WST the same as 452AA?
WST replaced 452AA, but I don't know that it's "the same." I've been using 5 grains of WST with a 200 grain LSWC. Was using 5.4, but found that was over max in all references I could find. Strange -- I could have sworn I got it out of some reloading manual.
When 452AA was available, I used 4.7 grs under 200 gr cast lead SWCs. Mighty sweet load.

Now I use 4.7 grs WST under a 200 gr. cast SWC. Mighty sweet load, can't tell the difference, except that WST may be a little bit cleaner.
4.5gr of 452AA is a nice powderpuff load in the Colts but won't reliably cycle the Sig. I was hoping to go to 5-5.5gr (with a 185gr SWC) but can't find any published data on 452AA or Trap 100 to support my decision. Anybody tried this recipe?

For 38 spl plinking loads I prefer 158 gr cast RN bullets over SWCs because they are more accurate in my guns. My favorite powder is no longer made but I still have a couple cans and am always looking for more if anyone has some for sale. W452AA about 3.5 grs under the cast RNs bullets works for me.

All I can find is shotgun loads in my old paperwork. I was and still am using it in .45 untill I finish off the last pound or two I have In .45 I am using 4.5 grains with a 230 lead bullet. Pretty close to Bullseye. Load at your own risk, I was using this load in a S&W 625 revolver
