OK - Mall Cop Shoots At Shoplifter

A suspected shoplifter got more than he bargained for at a local mall Monday evening.

Tulsa Police say that a man was leaving Woodland Hills Mall after taking clothes from a store around 6:30 p.m. A security guard followed him to the parking lot as the man tried to get into an SUV and leave.

Unfortunately, were this to happen in this state (especially in any Simon mall) the shoplifter would receive counseling and monetary compensation for his trouble and stress... Simon malls are too afraid of being sued, so their mall cops can barely carry a radio, and most retailers now have a "do not pursue beyond the entrance" policy for the safety of employees, in case of more criminals waiting in ambush. I know at least one employee (of a national electronics retailer) that was very nearly fired for taking on two would-be muggers in a parking lot he witnessed from his job at an car install bay, despite the fact he thought ahead enough to remove his company shirt before intervening and preventing the theft and possible injury of a shopper in the parking lot. Good for Tulsa to have a backbone still!
