LEOMINSTER — An unidentified man was shot and seriously wounded by a police officer about noon today.
Details about the shooting and what led up to it weren't immediately available. Police Chief Peter F. Roddy said he wasn't aware of the victim's condition, but initial accounts from the scene said the man was “unresponsive.”
The chief said that state police officers assigned to the Worcester District Attorney's office were assisting in the investigation. Details about the incident will be supplied this evening, he added.
The shooting occurred in the middle of Stearns Avenue, about halfway between Arlington and Washington streets. The site is less than a block from Northwest Elementary School and only a few blocks from the Leominster campus of UMass Memorial Hospital.
