Comm2A participated in the Gun Rights Policy Conference in San Francisco this weekend and here are some notes on Saturdays events and the conference in general. First we would like to thank the SAF for hosting such a great event and we look forward to next year’s event to be held in Chicago.

There were speakers from all disciplines of the firearm community including Alan Gottlieb, Joe Tartaro, Bob Barr, John Lott, Eugene Volokh, Alan Gura, Tom Gresham and of course GOAL's Jim Wallace.

One thing we have learned above all else is that we can say unequivocally Bob Barr hates the UN. But wait, there was also a state legislative briefing covering HI, CA, IL, and MA. Our very own Jim Wallace was one of the better speakers of the day speaking in his usual style, schooling the room on the use of labels and ensuring that you define your opponents actions and not the other way around. Alan Gottlieb and his wife Julianne Versnel have been very interested in extending gun rights internationally and there were a few sessions dealing with international gun control and human/women's rights (a strong interest of Julianne Versnel). Julianne Versnel has testified expertly at the UN that gun rights are a human and women's rights issue in a way very few others could. She turns their arguments back on them. Did we mention, Bob Barr hates the UN.

After lunch (where we heard more about the UN from Bob Barr) the lawyers had the floor. Cal Guns Foundation and one of their local attorneys described the cases pending and planning in CA. Alan Gura then spoke eloquently about the McDonald case and its impact around the country. In a rare moment of candor, Alan Gura let the audience in on his frustration with certain gun rights groups jumping out ahead of the parade he so expertly put together.

It was good to see knife rights featured at the conference and the clear acceptance in the room that the Second Amendment means more than guns. There was also a diversity panel with Paxton Quigley, Pink Pistols and others. An interesting fact was brought up by Pink Pistols. The Sykes (right to carry case) case's lead plaintiff, is a lesbian woman. It will be interesting to see what the press reaction is when that case is won. Let’s see which is more important to the CA media. Will they bash gun rights or will they focus on the sexual orientation of the plaintiff. Either way, it will be a win for all Californians. (and the entire 9th circuit and beyond???)

Check back with us in the coming months. We are doing more than just traveling the country running from the UN's black helicopters. We have been defending the rights of two of your fellow gun owners and when their legal situations allow, we will let you know more about those efforts. We have also been working on helping yet more gun owners fully exercise their firearms rights here in the Commonwealth of MA with targeted litigation aimed at ending the civil rights abuses in this state. We would love to tell you everything we are up to and we will in due time. Expect to see some very exciting announcements in the future that will impact the rights of all MA firearms owners. We can't wait to share with you what we have been working on.

Oh, and did we mention Bob Barr hates the UN?

Thanks for keeping us posted about Comm2A's activities!
