So attempt (unconstitutional) to punish all,, and make the good guys and gals defenseless to prevent themselves from becoming a victim of crime too! Brilliant! Forget about enforcing laws, sending back illegal immigrants, and arresting and punishing criminals! Let's go after the law abiding citizens instead!

Billy the Kid on the loose again? How about la Jefa de policia and el alcalde there? Did they ask for this or did the governess decide it on her own?

Emergency powers run amock is the theme song for NM to fight in the future.

In the present it is simply unconstitutional and to be ignored.

This.

EVERY aspect of American firearms policy is on the side of the law-abiding free citizen who chooses to carry in Albuquerque right now. So, that citizen should feel no qualms about carrying. Dare the cops to make an arrest over this. An executive order restricting a constitutional right absent a statutory emergency is the definition of tyranny, and no citizen should ever obey it.

New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham on Friday issued an emergency order suspending the right to carry firearms in public across Albuquerque and the surrounding county for at least 30 days in the midst of a spate of gun violence. The Democratic governor said she is expecting legal challenges but felt compelled to act in response to gun deaths, including the fatal shooting of an 11-year-old boy outside a minor league baseball stadium this week.
The firearms suspension is tied to a threshold for violent crime rates that only the Albuquerque area currently meets. Police and licensed security guards are exempt from the temporary ban.
What kind of idiot gave a governor the power to unilaterally suspend a civil right over any entire county (Bernalillo County?

I bet they say "We don't need no stinking _____" (Fill in 2nd, Heller, Mcdonald, Bruen whatever)

Not sure how that is going to work. NM has a pre-emption clause and a quick search shows (hate to quote Giffords but...)

Article II, § 6 of the Constitution of New Mexico, which provides citizens of New Mexico with the right to bear arms, was amended in 1986 to include the following: “No municipality or county shall regulate, in any way, an incident of the right to keep and bear arms.”

In 2002, the Supreme Court of New Mexico had occasion to interpret article II, § 6 of the Constitution of New Mexico. In Baca v. New Mexico Dept. of Public Safety, the plaintiff challenged a provision of New Mexico’s Concealed Handgun Carry Act that provided municipalities and counties with the authority to prohibit the carrying of concealed weapons, arguing that the provision delegated to localities the power to regulate an incident of the right to keep and bear arms in violation of Article II, § 6.2 The court agreed and held that the provision was unconstitutional. It found that the broad language of Article II, § 6 prohibiting municipalities and counties from regulating an incident of the right to keep and bear arms in any way indicated the intent to preclude piecemeal administration at a local level and to ensure uniformity in the regulation of firearms throughout New Mexico.3 The court also concluded that the manner in which a person bears a weapon is an “incident of the right to bear arms” under article II, § 6.4

Maybe she's testing that and will argue they city didn't create the law, she did

Also: "ensure uniformity in the regulation of firearms throughout New Mexico"

Same result though, just not enacted at local level

Will be as enforced as much as MA ammo storage permits.

Regardless of enforcement, MA is comfortable with their chains.

The rest of the country, and yes acknowledge that NM has been libtarded forever, are not comfortable with it.

LE will react and enforce shit like this. Even more so since they got their own carve out.

Meh, selectively if at all. And judges will likely discard the charges for people otherwise not prohibited, because it's basically a legal garbage truck filled with nitroglycerin. 🤣 maybe if the judge is senile or something.

I know one NM (not ABQ) cop, he's not the type to enforce stupid laws against taxpayers. Encountered the same thing in Chicago when handgun possession (much less carry) was banned for all but current LE.

See also the reaction to her signing New Mexico's red flag law.

I think there are hordes of cops chomping at the bits to enforce this latest decree from their masters.. No shortage of cops for Katrina duties and enforcing mask mandates, so guessing this will be no different.

Nothing like the low hanging fruit of law abiding citizens and little to no resistence combined with fear to get the cop ego boner fully engorged.

Generally, cops are not on the side of the people, they are on whatever side gives them their perceived power.

This is terrible, we must do something!
This is something.
Therefore we will do this, even though it’s obviously unconstitutional:

(Apologies if this is a dupe)
Good do it! Fools

The governor did. Just ask her!

In the Southwest, NM is an odd standout both culturally and politically. While all neighboring states have their own quirks, NM is the "banned in Boston" of the region. It's MA-SW.
