Guy brought a 94 Winchester to me with "A bullet stuck in it," and asked me to help.

Wrong cartridge had been stuffed into the loading gate, and was not in a mood to come out. Seems that .30-30 is not the same as .401 SLR

This oldie was a new one on me. I don't count myself as an expert, but I've seen a few oddballs in my time. The last one that stumped me was US Military .30 cal pistol ammo ( for the Pedersen device).

What "Vintage" chamberings have you run across, that made you have to look something up?

Oh, I removed the screw that held in the magazine cap, removed the cap, spring, and follower, and with a shake the cartridge fell out. Success!

Da fuq is a 401 slr
Found it.

Note well:
not just Nikon -
it's Nikon AF.

Me 2 but how would you think that's a 3030
I'm guessing that the person that fed it, was completely clueless.

The absolute coolest that I've glommed onto, is

but I got that in a box of old, random ammo, not in the action of a Winchester [laugh]

There are a lot of wildcat cartridges out there.

.17 incinerator is probably the ones with the coolest name. Although it was created as a joke, there isn't a gun chambered for it. Unfortunately.

If I had the tools, I would create the 9mm LUGAH.

I contacted a few NES members for help with that one, but no one could help.

I have some of the cartridge upstairs. Might have been rimfire or centerfire. Not sure.
I think it was for a Winchester pump.

I've got a 3-digit Winchester 1895 in 30US.

30US is not 30-30, it's not 30carbean, and it DEFINITELY (because 1895< 1903/6) not 30-06.

30-40 Krag. Because prior to 30-06, 34K was 30US.

Not THAT unusual of a caliber. But you could F someone up not knowing what ammo goes in it.

I STILL have to send it to Turnbull. It needs a s-ton of work. Prior owner really did a job on it.
