A-O 1911

Thanks for posting.

I'm doing some work on a similar Auto-Ordnance (Kahr build) 1911. Mine is from 2013 and built in Worchester, Ma.

I'm wanting to upgrade to a Wilson beavertail grip-safety, hammer, sear and backstrap.
I'm curious why the grip-safety isn't installed in your pics? Fit problem?

I appreciate any extra info on your A-O build. Problems you had, etc.

Thanks for your time -Jim.

Ya the beavertail grip-safety wouldn't fit id have to grindoff the tail on the frame to make it fit. The hammer and sear dropped in just fine but i had to enlarge the hole in the frame for the thumb safety. The Wilson combat backstrap was about an 1/8th of an inch to tall and would bind the trigger spring so I just used the old one.

Do you know what year the gun is? Is it a pre-Kahr build?
I see you bought part # 298S, a "full fit safety".
I bought part # 429BG. Supposed to be "drop in".

Hope I (well, my gunsmith) don't have as many problems.

Thanks -Jim

I don't remember the year I can look when I get back home next week to let you know. That grip safety looks like it would work cause it has the 2 notches on either side to let the frame pass around it. I might end up getting that one and using it cause I don't like the factory one I have on now.

Thanks for the reply. Picking up my A-O today at the gunsmith. I'll be sure to post some pics.

EDIT: The drop-in beavertail leaves a very unsightly gap between it and the frame. I'm going to get the part you bought, and their frame jig, and modify the frame for a proper fit.

Well, I would stick with the beavertail you bought, and buy the WC #402 jig to fit it. The drop-in leaves a horrible gap and just looks bad. I switched to the #298 beavertail and am happy with the fit. With the jig it is very easy to get the fit right. Here are the pics I promised.

That's what I used to fit my thumb safety on and it work perfectly. Just remember to go slow and only take a little off at a time and then test fit cause its really easy to take to much off.
