[no doubt this is the wrong place, but where?]

From the thread on a "box of ammo" found that morphed into actually a "box of (inert) grenades" found in a house.

Seems once a week, we see reports of neighborhoods being evacuated. This time because grenades were found, other times because there is some kind of stand-off.

Question: Who can make me leave my home when something is happing a couple houses away?

Can I make my own evaluation, and stay if I'd like?

How do they even know who is home to be evacuated?

As I remember, the effective burst radius of a grenade is about 5-10 meters. If said "grenade" (which most often is an empty, inert dummy with a hole in the bottom) is any further than that, a mass neighborhood evacuation is nothing short of grandstanding by public officials.

Short answer is, just don't answer the door and stay away from the windows.

the blast radius is 50 feet, and the metal/shrapnel travels upward. so it is best to lay flat on your belly.

In my neighbourhood the closest house is over 100 yards away. There are no gas lines. About the only thing I am going to evacuate for is a forest fire.
