I have a synthetic stock that I need to remove the......cut away I guess I'll call it. It's so the bolt can close down all the way. I just tried my dremel tool with a couple diff. bits. The plastic keeps melting closed on the other side of the cut. I'm not sure if I have the wrong tip or is there a better way??

How about slowing the tool speed down?

+1 - the Dremel is spinning fast enough to heat up the bit to the point where the plastic is melting instead of cutting. If you can't slow your Dremel enough, try using a round wood rasp, preferably in the same size as your bolt cutout.
