Favorite guard dog story: Old boss's brother trained German Shepherds and rebuilt some kind of race cars for a hobby, and worked for an alarm company of some sort. End result was a custom alarm system that would open all the doors so the dog could get out when a breakin was detected. System worked as advertised one night; owner came outside at 2:00 am after the alarm went off to find the two teenagers who were trying to get into the garage frozen against the wall with the dog sitting in front of them. Deciding that was an OK situation, the owner went back to bed. At 8:00 am, he called the police to come take the kids away - neither they nor the dog had moved while he slept for 6 hours.
