I've been looking at hard cases lately, items like Case Club 3 pistol case, but decided I could DIY it a lot cheaper.
Started with the http://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=12182 monoprice 22"x14"x8" (external dimensions) hard case, for $59.99 (on sale, now it's back up to $75.99).
It comes with two layers (about 2" thick) of foam that can be shaped to your needs. The case itself has rubber seals to keep dust/dirt/water out. It's very sturdy too. I stood on it (225lbs) and it didn't deflect much at all.
Overall, very happy with it - at half the price of the case club.
