Oh nos! I used to chase my little sister around with my cap guns. Must have shot her at least 1000 times. Guns are for hunting, targets and police officers? Aren't people supposed to be all for letting their kids make up their own minds about stuff now? Like the one couple who wont tell anyone their kids sex, because they want the kid to decide for him/her self? Oh wait, guns are the exception, because you get to choose "guns are bad, M'kay" for your kids? I get it now. It all makes sense. I've seen the light. Excuse me, but all of you scare me now, time to go register on DU.
Sadly my mother is one of these anti gun people, not because she is liberal and just hates the idea of guns but because she is paranoid and thinks that a gun just lying there is just waiting to shoot my daughter. The other day i was cleaning my Mosin Nagant, i keep my rifle in my room in a case, however i have the bolt removed from it essentially making it a expensive paper weight, my daughter comes into the room and sees me cleaning it, she was with me when i bought it and i would rather not try and hide the fact i have guns but rather have her know i have them and teach her about them. ( we dont hide kitchen knives, we teach our kids not to touch knives ) that should be the same philosphy with guns. Well my mother freaked out when she found out and said its an accident waiting to happen. Its amazing how misinformed people are about guns.

slightly OT here but i'm just wondering if some of these anti moms let their kids play any variant of grand theft auto or call of duty? or how about even the oregon trail? there's shooting in all of those. wouldn't you rather your kids learn about guns from responsible owners? guns are used to feed people, protect people and they were also an integral part of turning america into the greatest country in the world (well, it USED to be-but i digress...).

Why are people so afraid? What is it in our conditioning that makes 99% of the population go to flight instead of fight? What is it about the other 1% that makes them aware of imminent harm?

We were having a discussion about 2nd ammendment rights in the car today. My 13 year old daughter was explaining to my eight year old son why some people want to pass laws that take away people's guns:

Keep after them, NES!Probably not breaking any new ground here but having been around firearms my entire life, growing up, military, law enforcement, etc. the children I found the most troublesome with firearms were the children who were absolutely forbidden to look at, touch or be around a firearm. These children never got past the curiosity factor. These same children when they are in early adolescence are the ones that do the stupid things. The blame falls on the parents. Like firearms or not the truth of the matter is they are here. They are present. They are all around. My boys as soon as they showed any curisoity in my firearms (around 9 or 10 yoa) out they came. Pick it up, touch it, look at it and ask questions. Then as soon as possible it was off to the range to shoot. The curiosity factor was gone. I was more concerned for some of their friends and what they might do then my sons.

Woman are nest builders. and they want the nest to be safe. Some will appreciate a gun in the house . or a man with a gun in the house ; It makes the nest safer. Others , who don't think their men, kids or themself can be trusted with firearms just " don't like guns."
My girlfriend ( I married her eventually) once gave me a Mossberg 500 for Valentines Day.
